Hello! My name is Farah. I come from Jakarta, but my parents are from Sumatera. I have graduated from 65 Senior High School West Jakarta. Then, I continue my study to college, Binus University. I choose School of Computer Science as my faculty, and Informatics Engineering as my department. And because of my TOEFL test, I’ve invited to the Global Class. After finish all of the registration, I was required to attend Freshment Enrichment Program (FEP) or maybe that often we know as “ospek”. But the difference is, in this FEP we assisted to know more about Binus. During FEP, we accompanied by Buddy Coordinator (BC). FEP divided into three parts:
1. General Orientation (1 week)
2. Academic Orientation (2 weeks before lectures)
3. Campus Life Orientation (1 semester)
Why FEP is required? Because every section of FEP that we followed, we will get 100 point of SAT (Student Activity Transcript). SAT point is the requirement of every Binusian to attend the thesis trial.
General Orientation (GO)
When attending FEP, we have to wore white short-sleeve shirt, and black slacks. And we have to always bring our Flazz Card.
The function of this GO is:
- Know more about Binus University sphere
- Rule and registration of lectures
- Student Organization
- Buddy Coordinator (BC)
From this section, I’ve found many new friends. We are DBN02, means batch 4 from Binus University Kemanggisan, group number 02. DBN02 was reserved for Global Class students. In DBN02, not only Informatics Engineering Global Class department, but there is Acounting Global Class too. Although we are from different department, religion, or hometown, we remain diffuse, respect and polite to the others. We must come to campus in the morning at 7 AM – sometimes we have to arrived there 30 minutes before. And then we can go home at 6.45 PM or more. What a tiring day, but all of us always look happy. And because of our kind and funny BC. Until now, I always miss that moment 🙁 For one week full, we have to practice for perform our group songs. Every group must have their own songs. My group has addapted the song from “I Believe I can Fly”, “Semua Karena Cinta”, and “Semangat Baru”. And we have to memorize the university’s independent songs like “Mars Binusian” and “Mars Binus” – we are trying so hard to not clap our hands when the songs is over. And then there is Buddy’s songs that should be memorize every Binusian, with all the lyrics and the movements. And we have played the games sometimes, to escape from boredom, so we can know more each other like Buddy-BC, Buddy-Buddy, or maybe BC-BC.
And finally on the saturday, was the final day of our GO. In the morning we gather in our assembly point according to our department. We gathered in Syahdan Campus -we are usually in Anggrek Campus before, to attend the student organization expo, that has already introduced in Bunga Rampai before. For Informatics Engineering department, we have to gathered in HIMTI stand. HIMTI is informatics engineering student club. And for the Acounting, they have to gathered in HIMA stand, acounting student club. After looking around Syahdan Campus to join some student organizations, our BC collecting our “Love Letter” that they has assigned to us before. We made it with hand-writing for our fifteen BC’s -you can imagine how stiff it is. And we have to put some name to nominated as the most kind, the most handsome, the most beautiful, etc. And finally we reached the end of the event, the performance from every DBN group. Every groups was perform with they spirit and full of creativity. And then it comes to our turn, the last group. We felt so nervous, especially for me, who stand in the first line. But with our confident and guided with our captain Andrew and his vice Alven with all their spirit, we felt brave to perform very well. I do not expect that all the people in the room was followed by the atmosphere of our songs, like they raised both of their hands and swinged it to the right and left. And then, we are success to perform very well. After the ceremony was end, we took a photo session with our BC. Actually, we feel so sad that we have to be separated, even if we still have a chance to meet because we still in one campus, but I thought it would be difficult.
Organizational Skill
Organizational skills are reflected in your ability to use time, energy and resources effectively to achieve goals. The ability to meet deadlines, work independently and plan for future projects are all examples of organizational skills that you need for success at work. In this AO class, Informatics Engineering Global Class are divided into 2 classes. I got LB02 class. In this class there are 13 students, but in another class there are more than 20 students -I don’t know why. This AO run for 2 weeks before the course begins. We studied about the basic materials like “Introducing to Algorithm”, etc. And we know about our lecture like Mr. Derwin, Ma’am Zulfany, and many more lecture. For the main course, our class always separated into two, but for the Character Building (CB) course, our class are merged into one. And we are NOT forget to tapping for every shift of course.
HIMTI Togetherness and Top Performance
As a student from School of Computer Science, we have to attend the HTTP. HTTP is a yearly event to welcome new student like us. The event was held in Auditoriun 3th. floor of BPPT II building, Jakarta. we only need to pay Rp 150.000,- , we get so many benefits like C language lesson, HIMTI exclusive PIN, transportation, merchandise, HIMTI KIT 2015, lunnct & E-Certificate.
There are many interesting events like watching movie, talkshow, games, visualization, guest star performance, etc. And the most liked event in my opinion was visualization, flashmob, and DJ performance, when the music was make my heart and my body jumping. There are also food stand in the roof-top, like takoyaki, french fries, creepes, and heavy foods like rice. And then there is a Bear Brand stand, which is handing 200 cane of Bear Brand to us, FREE. In the end of the event, we have to queuing in the exit door to take our goody bag which is contain our T-Shirt, according to our size. At the begining I think the committee are still weak in the preparation, but they can make it awesome at the end. LIKE IT!
